Peace Bytes goes to Finland!

Peace Bytes goes to Finland!

In July 2019 a group of young people from the Moville Family & District Resource Centre and Peace Bytes Derry/Londonderry took part in an Erasmus+ ‘exchanging hobbies’ trip to Finland. Young people from four countries – Ireland, Finland, Portugal & Iceland – took part in this cultural exchange, held in and around the towns of Orivesi and Tampere, southern Finland.

Over the space of the week, the young people took part in a huge range off activities such as zip-lining, t-shirt making, jewellery making, various sports, lake swimming, sightseeing in the town of Orivesi & Tampere, team building and attending workshops where they learnt all about each other’s everyday life. A few of the very memorable events included tasting Icelandic shark, Irish Ceili Dancing, Finnish baseball and Portuguese dancing!

The exchange provided the young people with a great deal of personal development, as well as growing their knowledge of the wider world, developing confidence and being an extremely enjoyable and memorable experience in another country! On the back of this trip, the Moville Family & District Resource Centre hopes to work on developing a similar project for the coming years. A huge thank you to our hosts in Finland Antti, Veronika, Mira & Marika for such a fantastic week.
